Villa Kimia is located outside the charming Baroque town of Acireale, in an area renowned for agriculture and the cultivation of citrus fruits. Although located in a residential area, the house is surrounded by greenery in a peaceful quiet setting. The owners run a farm here specialising in organic pink grapefruit. The organic philosophy extends to the house designed by the owners who have preferred alternative energy. It lies between the sea and the slopes of Etna on a gentle decline at a height of 90 m, with the property enjoying the view of Etna with the sun setting behind it. The lands bordering Etna are fertile and the house boasts a land rich in citrus fruits, plants and aromatic herbs that fill the evenings with pleasant Sicilian scents. The house is a new structure built in 2006 on two floors with air-conditioned bedrooms, an independent kitchen and a big living area with large windows that open onto the garden with a large lawn and pergolas equipped with a dining table, barbecue and sofas. Surrounded by greenery is the fully-equipped swimming pool. The house is ideally located for exploring eastern Sicily. A few minutes away by car is the town of Acireale, with shops for basic necessities and numerous restaurants and bars, as well as attractive little narrow streets with churches and palaces that flaunt Baroque art. Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, is only 20 km away with a wide choice of wineries and restaurants to visit and where you can taste the typical products of the area. Taormina can be reached in just over half an hour along the highway, or you can opt for the panoramic road that follows the marvellous Ionian coastline.

Interior:

The house has two floors connected by both an internal and an external staircase. The hallway on the ground floor leads to the sleeping area on one side, with one double bedroom (with 1,40 m wide bed) and one with bedroom (with joinable bes) sharing a bathroom with shower and a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with tub and shower. On the other side, you come to the well-equipped kitchen and then the open-plan living and dining area, well lit thanks to the French windows overlooking the garden. The living room leads to a half bath and to the study area on a loft. An internal staircase leads down to the basement with a second area composed of a further kitchen with stone pizza oven, dining area and living area with large French windows leading to the pergola outside. On this floor is the fourth double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower and a large window opening to the outside. The floor is completed by the laundry room.

Park:

The area is known for its juicy and fragrant citrus fruits. The house is located within the farm managed by the owners who mostly grow pink grapefruit. The plantation extends over 9500 metres. Around the house is a well-kept, gently sloping lawn that connects the ground floor with the basement. These two floors have paved spaces with pergolas offering shaded areas for dining and relaxing. On the ground floor is a large dining table and a relaxation area with comfortable sofas and armchairs. On the basement floor is a second dining table under a pergola with mobile barbecue. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

The pool area, bordered by dry lava-stone walls, typical of the area, hedges and a wooden fence, is located on the south side of the house, which is about 15 m away and can be reached from the French windows of the ground floor living room. The rectangular pool, measuring 7 x 12 m with the depth varying from 1,20 to 2,50 m, lined in PVC and with chlorine purification, lies in a corner of the garden protected at the back by a row of tall trees. Four steps at the shallow end give access to the water while, at the deep end, is a diving board and a metal ladder. Set along the tiled perimeter of the pool are sunbeds and umbrellas. Nearby is a cold-water shower with attached bathroom. The swimming pool remains open from the last saturday of April to the first saturday of October.

Location and distances


The location of the house is ideal for exploring eastern Sicily. It is just 4 km from Acireale where you will find supermarkets, numerous bars and restaurants as well as churches and palaces famous for their delicate Baroque architecture: the neo-Gothic cathedral, the Basilica of San Pietro and the Basilica of San Sebastiano are just a few of the monuments that embellish the town centre. A short distance away are the other 8 “Aci” which are part of the ancient history of Sicily. In particular, Acitrezza, with a wonderful view of the faraglioni (sea stacks), and Acicastello, renowned for its old Norman castle, are idyllic seaside towns where you can go for a stroll, enjoy a granita or fresh fish in one of the numerous restaurants. Among the various excursions, not to be missed is the one on Etna that you can visit in various ways, independently or with a guide, hiking or cycling while, for the less active, you can opt for a stop at the foot of Etna to taste the local products. The town of Taormina is just over half an hour away by car and the Catania airport is at an easy distance of 20 km.

Yes, it was a delightful place to stay. Spacious, clean, the owner and his daughter were so very helpful. There was all we needed and if there was a query or help required, the owner or his daughter were there quickly. The setting was amazing, especially the views of Mt Etna. We enjoyed ourselves very much.
