The recent renovation of an old ruin, once used as stables, gave rise to Monterzi, a pretty farmhouse perched on top of a hill, in a discreet position in a property surrounded by vineyards and olive trees yet not far from the lively medieval borgo of Montisi, just a short, pleasant walk away, and from San Giovanni d'Asso, famous for the production of the delicious white truffle. During the restoration works, the stone turret, which was originally the main body of the structure, was expanded and completely renovated in accordance with the typical Tuscan style, rendering the interior comfortable and functional. From the top of the hill, on which the house stands, there is an extraordinary 360° panorama: directly in front of the property, there is the picturesque village of Montisi then, turning one’s gaze towards the west, there is the magical lunar landscape of the Crete Senesi and then, towards the east one’s gaze travels slowly across Radicofani, in admiration of the geometry and the ever-changing shades of colours of the entire Val d'Orcia, to Montalcino beneath the towering background of Mount Amiata, creating an impressive backdrop which represents the authentic, seductive essence of the territory of Siena. Thanks to the excellent road network, the house is the perfect starting point for visiting the major art cities of the region, such as Siena and Florence, and the borghi of greater artistic interest, like Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Montepulciano and Trequanda, and also for relaxing at the excellent thermal spas of Rapolano Terme, Bagno Vignoni and San Casciano dei Bagni.

MONTERZI HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO A CHECK-UP BY A TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY OF THE DESCRIPTION, ACCESSORIES LISTED ON THIS PAGE AND THEIR PRESENT STATE OF OPERATION/MAINTENANCE, TO GUARANTEE QUALITY, CLEANLINESS AND COMFORTS TO ALL CLIENTS WHO WILL STAY HERE.

Interior:

The house has two floors, connected both internally and externally by staircases and, being built on sloping ground, both floors have direct access to the outside. The main entrance is under the portico and can be reached by climbing a few steps; It enters the living room with a dining area, connected with a double bedroom, a twin bedroom with joinable beds (with direct access to the outside through a French window) and a bathroom with shower. A short flight of stairs leads down to the lower floor with laundry and kitchen with outside direct access through a French window.

Park:

The house is set in an estate of about two hectares, for the most part vineyards and olive groves which characterize the surrounding landscape. The park has various types of vegetation: along the paths inside the property, where guests can stroll in pleasant tranquillity, are a variety of native shrubs and tall trees, such as maples, holm oaks, chestnuts, old oaks, lindens and fruit trees such as fig, cherry, pear and peach. A panoramic portico equipped with table and chairs (and brickwork barbecue just few steps away) completes this ideal setting, where guests can enjoy delicious meals of typical Tuscan flavour. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

The swimming pool, about 15 m from the house, on a slightly lower level and wooden and net fenced with gate, is south facing in a wonderful panoramic position over the Val d'Orcia. The rectangular-shaped pool, with a ladder for access to the water, measures 4 x 8 m with a constant depth of 1.10 m. It is lined in PVC and has chlorine purification. The sunbathing area surrounding it, paved in pink stone and bordered by lavender bushes on two sides, is provided with sunbeds and has a solar-heated shower. The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October.

Location and distances


Montisi is an ancient and small ridge top village of Etruscan origin, characterized by the typical landscapes of the country south of Siena, with steep slopes alternating with vast woodland areas and cultivated fields. It is situated in the geographical area known as the Crete Senesi (Siennese Clays) which includes the nearby villages of Buonconvento, Asciano, Monteroni d’Arbia and Rapolano and is characterized by clay hills and the so-called “biancane” which confer to the Crete Senesi the typical cuneiform reliefs. The area of the Crete Senesi represents an uncontaminated oasis with suggestive and ever-changing landscapes, in which the territory and environment have maintained, over the years, an integrity and a rare purity. From Montisi, where to find shops and restaurants at, it is easy to travel, thanks to the good road system, to interesting localities in the region: the nearby Val d’Orcia with its historical and artistic hamlets, but also Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, the villages of Chianti, Florence and many others. The area is very well served by motorway A1 (the nearest exit is Valdichiana) and easy to be reached from the main airports of the region, Firenze (about 130km) and Pisa (about 190 km).

The villa was clean and tidy when we arrived. The owner showed us around and was able to answer any questions we had. She was very helpful and made sure that there was bottled water on our arrival. She also brought us a couple of gifts including a bottle of wine made from the grapes grown at the villa.

Stunning views, peace and tranquility, complete privacy! It is a perfect place for a holiday, with so many places to go and things to do, even within a 50km radius. The house, garden and the pool are just beautiful and the owner, Marina, makes you feel so welcome. Its one of the best places we've ever stayed in.

We loved this villa for the spectacular views, lovely pool, lots of places to eat or sit and relax, the fact we could walk to a choice of restaurants at night, the village amenities (baker, shop and bar). Most of all we just love this part of Tuscany. The owner (Marina) was lovely and keeps the property immaculate and even baked us a cake one day.

Marina who owns and runs the villa could not be more helpful. She was very accommodating and eager to make our stay as special as possible. Marina even baked us a cake. The Emma Villas booking process and communication was very smooth, including our additional services, chef, car etc. I would thoroughly recommend booking a car through Emma Villas Plus. Being met at arrivals and taken straight to our car was so much simpler than any car hire process we have experienced before.

We had a wonderful time at this lovely little villa. It is very peaceful and private, full of character and has the most INCREDIBLE views across Tuscany. We also loved the old hill top olive grove and all the old fruit trees in the grounds surrounding. Marina the owner is the loveliest person. The pool is also perfect. You can walk into Montisi if you want and road access is easy to the wider area. It is quite simply a perfect 'holiday cottage' in Tuscany.

The beautiful surroundings that Monterzi 4 was positioned it were the highlight of our holiday. We did not want to stray from the house in the evening due to the fabulous sunsets and peace. The house was perfect and the pool just added to the whole experience. Also, the proximity to Montisi was wonderful as we could walk to the bakers, bar, restaurants etc.

Location was spectacular, peaceful, in the Tuscan country, the view was so amazing it left us in awe the entire time. The owners were wonderful, gracious hosts who welcomed is into a Tuscan experience that will last a life time. Fabulous representatives of all that we hoped to experience when chose to come to Italy.

The gorgeous views, the charm of the stone cottage ,the beautiful and historic village of Montisi a short walk away and the lovely welcome and personal service provided by Marina and her daughter. The pool and poolside area were wonderful and well-used by our group.

It's situated in a very nice area. A very, very nice surrounding view. Beautifull sunsets. The owner is an extremely kind woman. She does everything to make your stay comfortable. Good swimmingpool and an outside shower.

Le calme de la propriété au milieu des oliviers, la propreté de la piscine, la vue magnifique à 360 degrés, la situation proche pour visiter (Siena, Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano...), l'excellent rapport qualité/prix, l'accueil et la gentillesse de Marina la propriétaire. The view! The location, the friendliness & helpfulness of the owners, the fireplace, the overall feel of the place. Marina and Fabio were extremely helpful and eager to accommodate any needs we had and the gift of the home baked cake and bottle of wine was such a welcoming touch.

The benefits of this guarantee are: you do not pay the security deposit on arrival: neither in cash nor by immobilising a substantial amount on your credit card limit;
  • you are protected in the case of eventual damage to the property caused accidentally during your stay (up to the maximum limit of 1500 euro);
